A lax developer and red-headed clown with a thing for hamburgers will probably continue to do business in Bensonhurst thanks to a couple of approvals from Community Board 11 this week.
Permits for the new building at 6701 Bay Parkway were originally issued before 2005’s rezoning of Bensonhurst, but developers of the mixed-use facility nevertheless ran into trouble when those permits expired before construction could be completed.
The Department of Buildings (DOB) slapped a stop-work order on the project with 97 percent of construction completed.
The applicant’s representative, Marvin Mitzner of Blank Rome, LLP, assured members of Community Board 11’s Planning and Zoning Committee that the remaining work would not enlarge the footprint, height and overall bulk of the existing structure.
No one from the public was on hand for last Thursday night’s hearing at the Holy Family Home on 84th Street.
With no neighbors to object, Frank Segreto, chair of the Planning and Zoning Committee, recommended that the full board should support the developers’ efforts to get the stop-work order lifted provided that the remaining work would not indeed enlarge the footprint, height and overall bulk of the existing structure.
Board members had an even easier time voting to support McDonald’s efforts to renew a special permit allowing the fast food giant to continue operating a drive-thru at its 86th Street restaurant.
The special permit for the drive-thru was originally issued way back in 1983 and has been periodically renewed ever since. The last time was in 2003.
Community Board 11 checked with the 62nd Precinct and found that there haven’t been any complaints filed against the eatery at 2411 86th Street.
Before breaking for both the evening and the summer, the board made time for the Brooklyn Studio School to award representatives of the NYPD, FDNY and Fort Hamilton Army Base with a check for the Widows & Orphan Fund, and say hello to four new members.
The group also introduced a resolution calling on the Department of Buildings to stop issuing permits to developments that have not cleared up outstanding violations levied against them.
