Firefighters had to cut an elderly woman out of her sedan after a dump truck smashed into her near the Kings Plaza shopping center on Thursday.
The victim was exiting the Mill Basin mall’s parking garage onto Flatbush Avenue near Avenue V shortly after 8 am, when the truck — owned by D.B.Demolition Corp Container Service of East New York — collided with her Honda Accord, according to police.
Firefighters were initially unable to pull the woman from her damaged vehicle, and the smoke eaters were forced to use a hydraulic cutting tool called the Jaws of Life to pry open the driver’s side door to extricate her.
Traffic on north-bound Flatbush Avenue was backed up to the Belt Parkway as a result of the crash. Police could not say if the slippery roadways contributed to the collision.
No charges were being considered at this time for either driver, who remained at the scene following the crash, cops said.
